Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina’s film “Jigra” hit theaters on October 11th and earned 4.55 crores, 6.58 crores, and 5.51 crores on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, respectively. The total weekend collection was 16.64 crores.
“Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video,” released on the same date, performed slightly better, earning 5.71 crores, 7.06 crores, and 6.40 crores over the weekend for a total of 19.71 crores. Both films have underperformed this weekend considering their budgets.
Alia Bhatt’s previous women-centric films, “Gangubai Kathiawadi” and “Raazi,” opened to significantly higher numbers than “Jigra.” Considering this fact, “Jigra’s” numbers should have been higher.
On the other hand, “Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video” is a desi entertainer. Desi entertainers have tremendous potential to shine at the box office if their content resonates with audiences, but “Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video” has missed that opportunity.
Going forward, both films still have a chance to recover, as they have an uninterrupted run until Diwali, which provides an opportunity to improve their performance. Both films need to maintain steady momentum to regain lost ground.
